The Global Eden Project
We will help local community groups buy threatened ecosystems with a view that private ownership is one of the best and safest forms of habitat and species conservation.
To offset international ownership problems and moral dilemmas, this will be combined with income generating tools for the communities with the building of world class eco-lodges with education centres on site. These will stand out as leading examples of real ecotourism, utilizing sustainable energy sources and building materials. All lodges will be staffed by local community members with 50% profit share going to them and micro-finance schemes being set up in collaboration with the Grameen Foundation. The education centres will offer free resources to local community groups.
This innovative scheme aims to begin with the communities and ecosystems of the internationally important Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. This area has been designated an area of high biodiversity and as such in need of protection.
